Alyx Treasure has gotten off to a flying start this season with the Prince George Track and Field Club.
The 13-year-old jumper/runner collected five golds and silver during the Spruce Capital Meet at Massey Place Stadium over the weekend.
“I’m excited about high jump,” said Treasure, who went into the event looking to clear 1.60 metres. She came close to winning with a jump of 1.59-metres.
Treasure opened the meet off winning the 100-metre in 13.94 seconds and the 80-metre hurdles in 14.63. She also won the triple jump, long jump. She was second in the javelin.
Treasure spent the winter playing basketball with the Prince George Minor Basketball Association on the U13 and U14 teams this year, which helped her stay in shape for the track season. She’s also begun playing soccer with the Prince George Youth Soccer Association.
“I started in track when I was six or seven years old,” said Treasure. “My dad got me started. He used to be in track and was pretty fast.”
Now Treasure will begin to prepare for the Junior Development meet being held in July in Richmond.
“I’m not going to all the track meets I will be going to JD’s. It will be very competitive there,” said Treasure.
