Skater strikes gold at provincials
Mikaela Moore has been having a topsy-turvy season, on the ice and off.
Moore, 10, first qualified for the PacificSkate at the regionals in Prince George in December, in the preliminary skills event.
At the provincials in Powell River last weekend, Moore skated a clean performance on her way to gold.
"It went good,” said Moore, who trains with the Spruce City Figure Skating Club. “I had to start really early. I had warm up at 6:30 in the morning and then skated at 8.”
Making it to the provincials was an accomplishment for Moore.
“At regionals things went well but I kind of forgot stuff. I was in a car accident the day before I had to compete and I was a little sore,” said Moore, who juggles figure skating with gymnastics.
“I have to double up on two days and take a day off of skating for gymnastics. And we do dance in gymnastics. It helps with my skating too,” said Moore, who is a level one competitive gymnast.
Moore was excited with her gold medal that she won at provincials and is now getting ready for a very busy season on the ice and in the gym.
I like doing both right now. It’s hard to say which is my favourite,” said Moore. “I don’t know which one I like better.”
