Science is all around us. In the North it is driving innovations in forestry, clean technology, transportation, mining and more – the most exciting of which will be featured at a special two-day expo. The Year of Science: Science and the World Around Us Expo runs April 11 and 12 at the Prince George Civic Centre.

There will be career roundtables where people can met some of science’s most inquiring minds and learn how they got to where they are today. Visitors can take part in career roundtables with industry professionals from fields as diverse as engineering, geoscience, bioenergy, environmental services and remote sensing and scanning.

Expo activities and exhibits include mapping the origins of metals and minerals, trying your hand at geocaching or learning about renewable energy. The exhibit area is a great way to get hands-on experience with tools and techniques being used by B.C.’s brightest scientists. See cutting edge technology and research that has made British Columbia’s North a world leader in sustainable resource management.

There will also be an exploration zone for children of all ages inviting them to put on their thinking caps with fun, creative exercises and puzzles to get them experimenting with science and the world around us. This unique activity is presented by The Exploration Place museum and Science Centre.

The Year of Science: Science and the World Around Us Expso runs Monday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 7 p,.m. and Tuesday, April 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Prince George Civic Plaza. Visitwww.YearOfScienceBC.ca/world for more information and a detailed event agenda.

The Province of British Columbia has proclaimed the 2010-11 school year Year of Science. By working with leaders in the science and resource community, it is possible to raise awareness and promote a passion for science to better prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s jobs.
