Airport cocaine seizure proves to be lucky break for RCMP
Police say they are lucky seven kilograms of cocaine was intercepted at the Prince George airport late last month before it could be distributed.
In Nov. 28, the Prince George RCMP were alerted by Prince George Airport Authority security regarding an unclaimed piece of luggage. A police service dog gave indication that drugs were in the luggage, which had no personal identification tags. The RCMP seized the luggage and discovered the cocaine.
Police suspect that the cocaine was flown into Prince George for distribution to organized crime. Police continue to investigate with forensic examination of the drugs and packaging materials.
“With the recent large border seizure in which a Quesnel resident was arrested and charged, it is obvious and a concern that such large quantities of cocaine are being transported or shipped by any means into our province,” said Const. Mike Caira.
“Police are indeed fortunate that this quantity of cocaine did not make it to the streets of Prince George.”
Anyone with information that could help the police with the investigation is asked to call the Prince George RCMP at 561-3300, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
