City needs to flood Victoria with flood requests

The message for residents and business owners along the Nechako and Fraser rivers from the city's second flood plan report is pretty clear: floodproof or move.

A wonderfully undemocratic democracy

There was a time when our elected officials were the ones we held accountable for decisions made on our behalf as taxpayers. Now, no one is accountable. Heck, our politicians aren't even kept in the loop. We, along with all who thought we still lived in a democracy, had our jaw hit the table when it was learned that city councillors are not privy to documents at city hall and, specifically, not privy to details of a deal that the public has thought stunk from the get-go.

Left spins ‘dull rhetoric’ on HST

As a young man, I was in a fairly heated discussion with an individual who held a different view of who should govern Canada than the one I preferred at that time. I accused his political party of lying to get elected and he replied, "Why not? If you can't get elected to power, you can't do anything." I have never forgotten that lesson in political reality.

Crying over exotics

City council, give your heads a shake. Was it worth it? Banning exotic animals from appearing in our northern town was a dumb move. You made a lot of little kids cry. And you pissed off a lot of their parents who came with them to see Safari Jeff and Shannon at the Pine Centre Mall last weekend. Geez. Sorry, Safari Jeff didn't know we had a bylaw (No. 8101) that prevents him from bringing an amazing, educational and entertaining show here.
