Prince George RCMP and the fire department continue to investigate a fire in the 600 block of Alward Street on Tuesday morning.
Fire fighters were called to a home in the 600 block of Alward Street around 5 a.m. The occupants of the home were woken up by smoke detectors and found smoke in the basement. All residents were able to get out without injuries.
Fire crews entered the home and extinguished a fire, which was contained to one room in the basement.The building suffered smoke and water damage estimated at $50,000.
Police are characterizing the fire as suspicious in origin, and are asking for public assistance, especially in locating a First Nations woman who was seen knocking on a neighbour’s door at approximately the same time as the fire, asking for “Amanda.” The woman is described as five-foot five with a slender build, black hair pulled back, and possibly wearing a pink and white top and dark pants.
