Dog days of summer don’t slow Prince George show
Dog owners and handlers from New Mexico to Nova Scotia came out last weekend for the Dog Show competition hosted by the Prince George Kennel Club.
Secretary Anne Naff said the event was a big success.
“We had six judges including two from B.C. and two from Ontario,” she said. “There were two events per day, six shows in total. We had 175 dogs registered per show.”
There are seven categories in the annual competition: sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting and herding. In this year’s competition, the best in show prize was awarded to a giant schnauzer and a Karelian bear dog.
Notably, Merena DaSilva of Prince George won in the PeeWee Junior Handler competition (for four to six year olds) appearing with her French bulldog.
“We had entrants from all over including the Oregon, Vancouver and Alberta,” said Neff. “In each category, seven dogs are in the ring getting judged for best in show and they have a similar event for puppies in the same categories.”
