Artspace, the intimate music and art exhibit area above Books and Company, has been a haven for local and out of town artists for many years. Local bookstore owner Jim Brinkman set aside the place soon after he opened his store so that emerging and well-known artists alike could have a space to perform or show their works of art.
The upstairs room was designed with both acoustic qualities and good lighting requirements in mind to best showcase the artistic talents on stage or on display in the art gallery. This month, there’s an exciting line-up of musical talent booked for Artspace.
On Oct. 6, the popular local Celtic band Out of Alba (Artists Helping Artists) show played Artspace followed by the hilarious antics of Serious Moonlight Improv actors on Oct. 10. Country music rising star Art Pruce plays the venue on Thursday, Oct. 11, a fundraiser event for the Crisis Pregnancy Centre up. Then, the exciting 13-piece band the Los Gringos Salvajes with its wide array of instruments hits the stage on Saturday, Oct. 20. Ron Szabo will perform Oct. 29 followed by local guitarist Ken Hamm who plays the space on Oct. 20 for a concert. Hamm will also be giving a three hour guitar workshop on Sunday.
Anyone interested can register at Books and Company.
