Zurowski outspent Hall by $30,000 during election campaign

Money doesn’t always mean an electoral win. Many Prince George residents felt that when Shari Green spent more than $80,000 on her successful election campaign in 2011, that’s exactly what she did. However, it didn’t work for Don Zurowski. Documents released by Elections BC Monday reveal that Zurowski spent $72,249.29 on his campaign for mayor last fall. Lyn Hall, who won the election with 10,463 votes to Zurowski’s 8,850, spent $41,275 on his campaign. The largest contributor to Hall’s...

Province digs deeper into ICBC, Hydro piggy banks

By Jeff Nagel Black Press The B.C. government intends to pull more money out of ICBC in the years ahead. The annual dividend from the public auto insurer – which goes into general government revenue despite repeated demands from critics for lower premiums instead – is estimated at $160 million a year in each of 2015, 2016 and 2017, according to budget documents. That’s an increase from estimates of $155 million for 2015 and $125 million for 2016 in last year’s budget. By the...

Pin it on the Games

Cole Dawe is in awe Sunday as he looks over a vast array of colourful Games pins on display and available for trading. The pin trading event took place at the Commonwealth Building and there were lots of eager collectors eyeing up pins for their collection. Dawe, who only started collecting last week, already has a few dozen marching down his scarf. The Heather Park student says he wants to collect even more. That’s how “Krassi” of Vancouver got interested in the hobby, he says. “I began...

Canada’s best cross-country skiers here for the Games

During the second week of competition at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, the Cross Country Ski event will be witness to a very strong field of competitors.
