Don Zurowski, a three-term city councillor, has announced he will is seeking the mayor’s job.
Zurowski is confident about Prince George’s future and said he’s running because it’s an important time for strong civic leadership in the region.
“I know that the future is bright for Prince George if we move forward with urgency and do the right things,” he said. “I believe that I have broad support from all facets of our community and will work hard to represent the community as a whole, and community support is essential when facilitating change and progress.”
Zurowski takes his responsibilities seriously and brings enthusiasm and a truckload of experience to this important role. With a mind for business and a heart for the community he has had a successful career in the region, initially as the managing partner in Auto Magic Tire from 1972 to 1992, most recently as the general manager of Community Futures Corporation where he guided and mentored entrepreneurs in the stresses and challenges of starting and expanding their business.
In addition to three terms as city Coun. Zurowski is a municipal director of the regional district, chair of the Regional Hospital District and Chair of the Northwest Transportation Corridor Development Corporation. He is also a member of the provincial Minister of Transportation’s Advisory Committee.
Zurowski also believes in giving back to the community and has been involved as a volunteer with many non-profit organizations, including: Director of Big Brothers and Sisters; Director of Yellowhead Rotary Club; President Tourism Prince George and Prince George After-hours.
Zurowski envisions the future of Prince George as a great Urban Centre that has addressed those quality of life aspects such as improved air quality, a progressive curbside recycling program, a transportation network and amenities that are second to none.
