Most people know their publication the Watch Tower with its beautifully illustrated cover and thought provoking stories. But not as many know about the Jehovah’s Witness world wide religion. Visitors from communities like Terrace, Valemount, Queen Charlotte Islands, Prince Rupert, Quesnel and Kitimat will be among thousands attending the 2005 Jehovah’s Witnesses District Convention, Godly Obedience, in Prince George today.
The annual event held at the CN Center begins at 9:30 a.m. And, says local organizer Wayne Hoff, “the public is invited to attend. Hoff said the program will emphasize that the Bible’s teaching on obedience to God “benefits not only those who believe in the Creator but all persons who see the wisdom of following sound and right principles of conduct.”
Each day’s program (the convention runs from June 10 to 12) will be based on a Bible passage that highlights the theme of godly obedience.
“Witnesses believe that obedience in God’s commandments and direction is superior as a way of life, compared with the waywardness of mankind in general. Practical advice for families will be presented throughout the convention.”
There will be a keynote address Friday called Follow the Model in Your Obedience To God and a talk on “What Does the Bible Really Teach? which may clarify misconceptions on beliefs commonly attributed to the Bible. Other parts of the program will include a baptism ceremony, a Bible-based presentation for young people featuring “Timothy” and a special discourse on Sunday.
In past years, more than 2,600 delegates and guests have attended the annual event, he said. The program is one of a series of 37 conventions presented by Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout Canada. It is entirely based on the Holy Bible. All seats are free of charge and no collects will be taken. All are welcome to attend.
