The DP Todd Trojans badminton team had consistency on their side. It showed last weekend as the Trojans captured the North Central Zone crown at John McInnis.
They defeated the Kelly Road Roadrunners 7-4 in their final round robin game to take first place.
Trojans single and mixed double player Tara McCallum said the team improved a lot this year after settling for second place at last year’s zones.
“Overall we played really well. This kind of brought it all together this year. We played the right people in the right spots,” said McCallum.
The Trojans will prepare for provincials, which are being held in Cranbrook this year. The competition from the Lower Mainland will be very strong.
“Our goal is to not come last this time. We’d like to finish in the top 12 this year,” said Wadson. The provincials will be held in Cranbrook from March 2 to 5.
McCallum said it will be good to face the competition at provincials.
“When we go, we just want to try and play our best. We’ll play better because we’re playing tougher competition.”
The Trojans team is made up of 12 players including McCallum; YingXin Hong, Kathleen Stevenson, KhuenYi Hong, Emily Li, Claudia Li, Evan McLeish, Matt Matchatis, Thomas Saar, Ryan Patterson, Julian Li and Eric Lo.
