Fiddler on the Roof is a story about family. A Slavic Jewish family comes to terms with the spiraling turmoil of their own lives and traditions as they are affected by the political turbulence of the early 20th century. Each family connection is tested by the times in a different way. Holding all the threads is Tevia, the patriarch of the family. He is the one who keeps the household knotted.
