Gymnasts nail top finishes

The Prince George Gymnastics Club competed in Quesnel on the weekend.

The Zone 8 championships and the Gold Pan Invitational unfolded in the Cariboo city. Many personal bests were recorded by the athletes.

First-place finishes in the Provincial Level 1 events were recorded by: Kaylee Watt (tyro) - overall; Ally Steindl (tyro) - vault; Emily MacDonald (tyro) - bars; Samantha Thomas (novice) - vault and overall; Amy Hackle (novice) - bars; Hannah Lewis (novice) - beam; Rachel Schuetz (open) - vault, beam, floor and overall; Izabella Stokes (open) - bars; and Reid Powers (open) - bars, beam, floor and overall.

In Level 2 and 3 events, winners were: Kimberly Marsh (Level 2 open) - vault and overall; Erica Hirtz (Level 2 open) - beam and floor; Rhiana Palfy (Level 3 novice) - floor; Mekenna Parker (Level 3 novice) - bars; Naraa Little (Level 3 novice) - beam and overall; Mary Kate Barwise (Level 3 novice) - vault; Miranda Doerksen (Level 3 open) - vault, bars and overall; and Tianna Millns (Level 3 open) - beam and floor.

Zone trophies were also awarded. In the Level 1 category, winners were: Steindl - vault; Layee Watt - floor and overall; and Dallyn Long - beam. Level 2 winners were: Reid Powers - floor; and Marsh - overall. Level 3 trophies went to: Doerksen - vault and bars; Naraa Little - beam and overall; and Palfy - floor.

Gold medal results for male gymnasts included: Lane Oke and Evan Weis - floor, pommel, rings, vault, parallel bars, high bar and all around; Colbey Simunac - floor, rings, vault, parallel bars, high bar and all around; and Tyler Strizich - floor and vault. The boys received the first place Level 1 team award. Oke had the highest all-around score while Strizich picked up the “Hercules” award.

Sydney Hamilton won gold in the Level 3 category of the Gymstart program. The Prince George club also had Interclub gymnasts compete in Quesnel.
