An Evening of Persian Fusion concert featuring Navaz is a fundraiser for the Prince George Folkfest Society. It is also a chance to hear the diverse musical talents of world music group Navaz with Neda Jalali on vocals, Eric Tompkins on guitar, Hamin Honari on tonbak, Navid Goldrick on santour and John Bews on bass guitar.
The Persian-fusionband will be on tour in mid-Jun performing in Wells at the Sunset Theatre on June 18, at Artspace in Prince George on June 19 and at the Midsummer Music Festival in Smithers from June 20 to 22.
Band member Neda Jalali is from Iran and sang for many years in club and restaurants in Europe. Although Neda mainly sings in Farsi, she also sings in Spanish, French, Italian, Arabic and English. She frequently opened the stage for well known Persian musicians such as Hayedeh, Aslani and Leyla. In the late 1990s she toured England with Iranian superstar Moein.
Eric Tompkins has played all kinds of guitar styles including country, blues, jazz, Latin and classical.
