Do leaders need a map?

Some political leaders have said the public is tired of continually going to the polls.

That may be true. However, we’re tired of going to the polls as much as we’re tired of asking this question:

Will any of the federal party leaders campaign in Prince George during this election? None did last time.

In fairness, Green Party leader Elizabeth May and NDP leader Jack Layton were both in the city last fall. So they at least know where Prince George is. We’ll just have to wait and see if they return during the campaign.

Conservative Party Stephen Harper has been prime minister for five years and a couple of election campaigns. He hasn’t been here during that time.

Liberal Party leader Michael Ignatieff went on a much-ballyhooed summer tour of the country in 2010. It didn’t bring him to Prince George.

The respective candidates for each party will be telling us how important the Interior and the North of B.C. are and how their party recognizes that. Those words ring hollow if their respective leaders don’t take the time to visit … particularly during an election campaign.
