Oh My Darling returns to Artspace above Books and Company on Sunday, Feb. 27.
Local talent Sound of the North opens for the dynamic all-woman band known for its roots, bluegrass, country music style that is pumped up with some hip-swinging, toe-tapping funk.
The band formed in Manitoba in 2008. Their unique sound has been described as a melting pot of musical languages with Appalachian old time, southern twang and Franco-folk.
Infused with dynamic vocals, brilliant clawhammer banjo, inspired fiddling and grooving bass, their music gets hips swinging and toes tapping.
The line-up is Allison de Groot, Vanessa Kuzina, MJ Dandeneau and Rosalyn Dennett.
Oh My Darling spent a week in a secluded cabin in January far from the city, doing what they love most: making music. They recorded a three-song EP called Love Shack and now Oh My Darling is ready to give its new songs a whirl and fans a preview of what’s to come during a run of shows in Western Canada. Love Shack features three love-themed tracks that will be included in Oh My Darling’s next full-length album, scheduled for release this summer.
The tracks showcase their unique brand of country/bluegrass with the highlight a catchy cover of Tina Turner’s classic What’ Love Got to Do with It.
Tickets for the Oh My Darling concert at Artspace are $15, available at Books and Company on Third Ave. Show starts at 7:30 p.m.
