Two arrested, another sought following crime spree
Police have arrested two people and charged a third following a crime spree in the city on the weekend.
On Saturday police identified two local men in possession of a stolen vehicle that had been reported stolen at about 2 a.m. Saturday. The vehicle, a Ford F-350 pickup, was taken from a parking lot on Central Street in Prince George. Patrols for the vehicle were negative.
At approximately 10 a.m., police received a report of an attempted theft of another Ford F-350 pick up from a compound on Continental Way in the BCR Industrial Site. The attempted theft of vehicle and successful theft of licence plates was believed to have occurred at approximately 7 a.m. Investigators believe the vehicle associated to these crimes is the same vehicle that was stolen earlier from Central Street. Through investigation, two suspects were identified by officers. Given the time delay in receiving the report, officers were not able to locate the stolen vehicle or suspects.
As a result of this investigation, arrest warrants for possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, were issued for Jonathan Kyle Relkey, 22, and Chad Patrick Poitras, 27, both of Prince George.
On Sunday morning at approximately 9:40 a.m., a member of the Prince George RCMP was on Highway 16 en route to a report of a stolen Ford F-350 from the Isle Pierre area, west of the City. The officer observed a brown coloured Ford F-350 pick up following a white Ford F-350 pick up truck. The officer believed the brown truck matched the description of the truck stolen the previous day along Central Street and the white truck could possibly be the recently reported stolen vehicle.
The officer turned around and attempted to locate the trucks. The white F-350 was located very shortly after traveling on Bear Road, east bound towards the city's centre. The officer activated his emergency equipment. The driver of the vehicle began passing unsafely and ran the stop sign at Westgate Boulevard. Seconds later, the driver failed to negotiate the corner at Marleau Road and slid the vehicle into the ditch. The police vehicle slid into the pick up. No one was hurt.
Relkey was identified as the driver. A woman, found to be Ashley Susan Lynn Sampson, was also arrested. The truck had been stolen sometime between 8:30 p.m. the previous evening (October 27) and 9 a.m. that morning (October 28). A number of items were located in the box of the vehicle that turned out to be stolen from the same rural property as the truck.
Relkey and Sampson were arrested and face two counts of possession property obtained by crime over $5,000, and Relkey was arrested on the outstanding warrant from the day before.
The Prince George RCMP are continuing to actively seek Chad Patrick Poitras in relation to these events. Poitras is described as:
· Caucasian male
· 178 cm (5'8")
· 82 kg (180 lbs)
· Short Brown hair
· Brown Eyes
· Tattoo of a scorpion on his neck
· A scar on the left side of his mouth
