Council to set business committee in motion tonight
City council will, tonight, set out the parameters and membership of the select standing committee on business.
Mayor Shari Green announced the formation of the committee during her inaugural address last week.
The purpose of the committee, according to a report going before council tonight, will be: “To seek recommendations regarding ways to assist new and existing business to navigate a more responsive and accountable application, planning and permitting process,” and “to recommend strategies for Prince George to cut red tape and create a better environment for business to grow and generate new jobs, with an aim to assist the City of Prince George in opening its doors to business. “
The committee’s mandate will be to identify specific examples of perceptions by the business community of what the city is doing well and to provide specific advice on what it could to “create a better environment for business to grow and generate new jobs.”
Green has proposed a 21-member committee that will be co-chaired by David Livingstone and Janine North. Other committee members will include Green, Rod Bellman, Scott Bilbrough, Betty Bryce, Ron Epp, Garrett Fedorkiw, David Fehr, Kim Gill, Eduard Hausot, Kevin Horsnell, Sonya Hunt, Rod McLeod, Kelly Nordin, Val O’Connor, Todd Patterson, Roz Thorn, George Weinand, Craig Wood and a yet-to-be-named Chamber of Commerce representative.
The committee will report back to council by the end of January.
