Officer fires at speeding vehicle

A police officer had to discharge his weapon when a speeding vehicle carrying stolen items including firearms forced another officer to dive into a ditch as the suspect tried to run a road block.

The incident began when the RCMP were called out to an area near West Lake to investigate a break and entry where firearms were stolen.At about 3 p.m. police found the suspects who were driving a 1991 Chevrolet S-10.

An officer in a marked police car tried to pull them over, but they would not stop. A road block was set then up along the Blackwater Road.After speeding through it and forcing one of the officers to jump into the ditch a brief pursuit ensued, ending on Highway 16 West near Haldi Road.

Two men fled the vehicle on foot, but were arrested without incident a short distance away.Stolen items, including firearms, were located and seized.

The items were connected to property offences predominantly in the rural area around Prince George.Keith Christopher Lundy, 33, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.

Ian Vernon Cooper, 26, was charged with possession of stolen property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Both men are Prince George residents.Further charges will be recommended by the Prince George RCMP.
