Budget talks will be held in city today
After originally slated to bypass Prince George, federal politicians will budget discussions in the city today.
Cariboo-Prince George MP Dick Harris and Minister of State and Chief Government Whip Gordon O’Connor will meet with small business owners and civic leaders at the Prince George Civic Centre to discuss ways to create jobs and economic growth.
The decision to include Prince George on the itinerary came after New Democrat candidate Lois Boone raised the issue, calling for public meetings to be held here.
“It’s good to see that the Conservatives are responding to public pressure, but they’ve only come part way,” said Boone in a press release. “Instead of closed door meetings that are by invitation only, they should be holding public meetings so everyone gets a chance to have their say.”
Today’s meeting will be a closed-door session.
“The format will be an informal roundtable discussion with civic leaders and small business owners who will bring the ideas and views that are representative of their regions and communities,” Harris said in a press release.
