Bel Canto Choirs will perform A World of Song on Nov. 17 at the Playhouse.
The concert features choral arrangements of songs from around the world with all three Bel Canto Choirs, the Junior Choir (ages six to 12) Youth Choir (ages 12 to 18) and Northern Voices adult choir.
The audience will enjoy the costumes and songs of Africa, Japan, Finland, France, Korea, Italy, Scotland and Canada to name a few of the cultures represented, says the choirs’ artistic director Jacklyn Riemer.
“What an exciting and enjoyable challenge it has been to prepare this concert. Many choristers from all three choirs have told me of their delight in this music and the fun they are having as they learn to sing in new languages and experience the choreography and movement of different cultures,” she said. “Our audiences will derive a great deal of pleasure from the variety and spontaneity in this production.”
The Bel Canto choirs were founded in 1981 to provide solo and choral opportunities for Prince George youth. The national award-winning Bel Canto Youth Choir represented B.C. at the National music Festival and they were winners in the 19 and under category.
For A World of Song, there are 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. concerts on Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Prince George Playhouse. Tickets are $15, available at Studio 2880 or at the door.
Season tickets for all three Bel Canto Choirs mainstage shows ($36) are also available.
