The Industry Training Authority (ITA) is hosting Power Up Women in the Trades, an open dialogue for Women in Trades Training, tradeswomen, and employers of women in the trades, October 23, 2013, at the College of New Caledonia in Prince George.
The forum, led by ITA’s Women in Trades Training initiative, will focus on the experiences of local women in the skilled trades and their employers. The number of women working in the trades has grown substantially over the past five years and women now represent 10 per cent of skilled trade apprentices, according to the ITA.
The input from the forum will help document best practices and strategies to further support industry and women, both during their apprenticeship and after the become certified jouneypeople.
The evening will include presentations from Erin Johnston, Director of Training Initiatives, ITA; Bob Kapphahn, Manager Training Systems, Canfor Corporation; and a local tradeswoman.
