Lauren Mann plays Artspace

Lauren Mann and the Fairly Odd Folk perform indie folk-pop melodies with an  authentic and energetic performance. They will touring across Canada from Jan. 26 to march 3, playing every province except Newfoundland.

They will be at Artspace Feb. 2 before embarking on a U.S. tour for March and April. What began as a simple solo project in the summer of 2008 has, over time and travel, evolved into a powerful and dynamic folk-pop experience. Mann has brought an eclectic, passionate and  – as the band name suggests – a fairly odd group of musicians along with her to bring greater instrumentation and dynamic to her captivating music.

Her start as a musician came long before she envisioned it as a viable career. Her parents enrolled her in classical piano lessons at the age of five and she continued until she achieved Grade 8 Royal Conservatory. She ventured into jazz training and gained a refreshing perspective as well as a strong technical foundation.

After that, she looked for opportunities to play her own growing repertoire of music. She started with house concerts, local all-ages shows and coffee shops and become connected in Calgary's music scene.

The group's new album will be released May 8 across Canada and in June in the U.S. They will be giving away three songs from the new album at www.noisetrade.com/laurenmannmusic. Lauren Mann and the Fairly Odd Folk will be playing for the fifth time in Prince George on Thursday, Feb. 2 at Artspace above Books and Company. Show starts at 8 p.m.
