Arcand named business person of the year
The Prince George Chamber of Commerce hosted their 2012 Business Excellence Awards Saturday at the Coast Inn of the North with 330 in attendance.
The Business Excellence Awards is an annual event hosted by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce to celebrate excellence in ten award categories.
“An Evening at the Oscars” was the theme for this year’s event. Upon arrival, guests were encouraged to enter the red carpet through a Limousine provided at the front door and were greeted by paparazzi and screaming fans asking for autographs. Event host Gery Schubert, a professional Host and Comedian from Calgary, as his character named ‘Rene Mauve Toupe’, kept the evening full of laughter with special fun awards given during the night in addition to the formal awards. The event décor was complete with old Hollywood-style red and gold table cloths, movie reel tickets, and Academy Award centerpieces.
“We restructured the Business Excellence Awards this year, decreasing the number of awards from 15 to 10 which really worked to deepen the pool of nominees in each category,” said Chamber CEO Jennifer Brandle-McCall. “We also found ways to increase the ‘fun’ factor during the event so that guests would leave feeling highly entertained while also having had the opportunity to recognize the best of business in our city.”
Ten awards were given out to various businesses and business people in categories ranging from the prestigious Business Person of the Year to the coveted Service Excellence Award.
“The desire to celebrate the successes of Prince George is remarkable this year with a record number of votes received from members of our Chamber of Commerce, as well as a complete sell out event,” said Chamber president Bill McGill. “Engagement is obviously high and the word is out: Prince George is a great place to do business.”
