Bowls for Kids Sake set for March 4
Go cosmic, be a superhero, and help Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Prince George.
You can do it all on March 4 at Bowl for Kids Sake, the annual fundraiser for the local group.
"We're already about half full," says interim executive director Tim Bennett, "so teams should sign up quick to get a time slot they want."
Each team will take to the lanes at the Strike Zone for a two-hour period between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on March 4. Each bowler will get free shoe rentals and a drink coupon, while each team will get a plate of nachos to keep their energy up. Bennett says team size can also be a factor organizers need to know about.
"Teams can be as small as three people and as large as you like. But if you've got more than five bowlers, we need to put you on more than one lane, so we need to know that as soon as possible."
Each bowler is asked to raise $50 in pledges, and a participation fee may be charged for those who don't make that total. Anyone raising $100 or more will get a 2012 Bowl for Kids Sake T-shirt.
Bennett says this year is a first in one respect.
"This is the first year we've done cosmic bowling, so it should be a lot of fun. We're also going with a superhero theme, so bowlers are being asked to dress up as their favourite superhero."
If you're not feeling super, bring along some glowsticks to help with the cosmic bowling feel.
The top fundraiser this year, assuming they reach a minimum of $350, will receive an Explore Vancouver gift package, including a gas card, $100 Ticketmaster gift card, one night at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport, two passes to the Vancouver Aquarium, and two two-day Hop On Hop Off passes for Vancouver Trolley.
The top online fundraiser will win a Night Out on The Town, including dinner and tickets to the March 17 game between the Prince George Cougars and Kamloops Blazers.
And if you're a solitary superhero, don't worry, Bennett says.
"There are always teams with spaces to be filled who are looking for extra bowlers," he says. "You can see which teams are looking for bowlers on our online registration page."
