Prince George retailers have had a very strong year, capped off with a near-record Christmas and Boxing Day season, according to Pine Centre Mall general manager Rick Nelson.
“We haven’t got all the final numbers yet. But we did very well,” Nelson said. “It was probably the strongest Christmas in 10 years.”
The mall saw more customers and consumers were spending more, he said.
“We’ve had a very successful year the entire year,” Nelson said. “We’ve seen more people and that is definitely tied to a confidence in the economy.”
The mall’s ongoing facelift, combined with new retailers locating there, has gotten a strong positive reaction, he said.
“For a long time not too much was done in Prince George,” Nelson said. “[Now] we’re just reacting to a good economy.”
Three new storefronts are under construction in the mall parking lot and renovations are slated to continue inside the mall.
“It’s all positive,” he said.
