British Columbia artists will have a unique opportunity to combine talents and green planet ideals for an upcoming exhibition called Pulse. Two RIvers Gallery put out a call for submissions this week, asking for works which explore the environmental theme Pulse. Pull out the painting palettes, dip the art brushes – or whatever tools fit the medium – or find recent works that fit the theme and direct entries to the gallery by the Oct. 26, 2007 noon deadline.
Curator George Harris said the exhibit’s theme is a timely one.
“We are more conscious now of the events that take place on our planet than we have been at any other time in human history,” said Harris.
“We can see the worldwide effects of pollution and poor environmental stewardship. We can witness the fallout of corrupt regimes and the impact of political and ideological extremism. Yet, as much as we can lament catastrophe and persecution, we can celebrate too the strength of the human spirit and the beauty in a world that is worth struggling for.”
Two River Gallery invites artists to submit work that contributes to the debate on the health of our planet and our civilization: work that helps capture the “Pulse” of our time, he said.
The gallery will explore this theme through a group exhibition set to open in February 2008.
Visual artists can submit up to six of their works. A statement outlining its relationship to the theme must accompany each work.
The works must have been produced within the last three years and should not have been previously exhibited in Prince George. Work for exhibition will be selected by jury and the gallery will pay fees to artists selected for exhibition.
Submission packages should include photographs or slides of the works, date of production, medium and size, an artists’ statement lining the work with the exhibition theme, a current resume and entry form.
