We hope you enjoyed our April Fool’s jokes on today’s front page. In case you didn’t get the joke, Pat Quinn isn’t going to coach the Cougars and the city isn’t looking at erecting an $8 million statue to honour former Mayor Colin Kinsley … at least that we’re aware of.
April Fool’s jokes are a time-honoured tradition for newspapers and there have been some good ones over the years. For us in the weekly newspaper game, they are more treasured because having an issue that comes out on April Fool’s day doesn’t come around every year, so we do take advantage of the opportunity when it comes around.
Today is a day for some tomfoolery, so have some fun, play a few jokes on your family and/or co-workers, but don’t go too far. Remember to be gentle and let your subject off the hook. That way you can all have a laugh and, as we learned at the recent International Women’s Day breakfast, laughter is the best medicine.
So the joke’s on us if we don’t have a few laughs.
