Wow, August 1 Viewpoint and Opinion is attack day on religion. There is a saying I like: “For those who believe no explanation is necessary and for those that do not, there is no explanation.” It is tough, maybe useless, to argue a religious position with those who do not believe.
Anyways here we go: Mr. Nunweiler’s letter was a tough read but I agree with the point he was making that for us believers there really is no difference between politics and religion, they should mirror each other. Mr. Loughery’s reference to the Golden Rule made me smile, as Jesus gave that answer when asked which of the 10 Commandments was the most important.
Then we go to Bill Phillips’ drivel on Bishop O’Connor and residential schools. The story on page 4, Aug.1, fairly acknowledges the appeal. Mr. Phillips, on the other hand, does not. Do not take it that I support what Bishop O’Connor did.
Next, “Keep abortion legal.” Sorry, no, that breaks the 10 Commandments. I like the dictionary, look up the Webster’s definition of life.
Next, “Who are the terrorists?” Bully/terrorist, no difference and I thank dad for the lesson on how to deal with them. How come we humans don’t bully wasps when we are way bigger and stronger? Are wasps terrorists when they sting? I like the Japanese admiral’s line in that old movie [Tora! Tora! Tora!, 1970], ” I think we have woken a sleeping giant.” The Taliban, and Israel’s enemies, are saying the same. God bless American parents, they have paid more than their fair share for world peace. Have a good day all and God bless for those who know and those that don’t.
