They opened the season with a 6-4 win over the Nanaimo Clippers Saturday. The Spruce Kings built a three-goal lead two different times only to see Nanaimo get within one midway through the third on goals by Corey Renwick and Devin Brosseau. Cole Todd’s second of the night and an empty-netter from Jake LeBrun salted it away for the Spruce Kings.
On Sunday, the Spruce Kings notched a 6-5 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. For the second-straight day, the Bulldogs fell way behind only to stage a comeback, ulitmately falling short. Trailing 6-2 heading to the third, Zak Bowles, Scott Clark – with his second – and Evan Tironese rallied for the ‘Dogs but they couldn’t find the equalizer. Justin Rai had a pair of goals for Prince George.
